In the movies, you often see people who have the ability to communicate on a psychic level. When it comes to your real life, however, you don’t quite believe in such abilities. Well, after reading this article, you would be willing to accept it.
Do you know about the Shamans? Well, to be honest, most of us don’t.
Shamanism is ancient. More than simply being a way of life, it’s a particular tradition of healing. Since the time of the hunter-gatherers, the original Shamanic practitioners mostly inhabited regions of Northern-Asia and Ural-Altaic. However, their ways of healing have percolated into other cultures and are now found elsewhere in the world.
Their method is pragmatic, yet, extraordinary. Practitioners of Shamanism can see and do things that normal people cannot. Moving into a state of heightened consciousness, they communicate with the spirits of the other from the ‘invisible’ realm.
An individual who gains the capacity to transcend the physical world by means of rigorous practice is given the name – Shaman – by the community members.
Classically, a Shaman would receive training and learn Shamanic healing as a way of life. In modern times, especially in the Western world, there is the existence of a sort of neo-Shamanism. Enthusiasts attend workshops to learn the methods of the Shaman. Admittedly, a true contemporary practitioner can achieve similar powers like the classical Shaman.
As with most indigenous people, the Shaman has a profound knowledge of physical medicines made out of herbs and roots. Yet, the specialty of Shamanic healing is their focus on spiritual medicines.
The Shamans do not believe in a singular reality. According to them, there is a realm of the spirits, beyond our perceived physical realm. They call upon these spirits to heal the diseases of the physical world.
Shamanism and Health
At present, as in ancient times, one can visit a Shaman to overcome health issues which conventional medicines haven’t been able to resolve.
Traditionally, a Shaman would say that our health and well-being is driven by a causal relationship. They believe that the physical manifestation of any disease is only the effect of an underlying spiritual cause.
Two people with same bodily symptoms may visit the Shaman. Yet, according to the Shamans, the two of them may indeed be suffering from different spiritual problems. This is especially true in case of more psychological diseases like depression, anxiety and so on.
Moreover, disharmony within the community is often manifested as diseases in the individual body. When a child prematurely suffers from some tough disease, a Shaman is more likely to call upon the community’s guardian spirit.
According to the Shamans, the most accessible gateway to the spiritual world is through our dreams. Solutions for many health problems are presented to us in our dreams.
Causes of Disease
As per Shamanic culture, there are three ways in which spirits and the spiritual world brings about diseases in our bodies.
Losing someone or something we dearly love throws our life out of balance. You lose your inner strength and succumb to diseases.
2. Spiritual intrusions
Loss of your guardian spirit creates a void which is filled with negativities like fear. This ruins your immunity and you suffer.
3. Loss of soul
A deep trauma makes you lose your essential self or your soul. Without the soul, you have no power and are overcome by diseases.
As already mentioned, the Shamans seek help from the spirits to heal the sufferer. Such healing can be achieved in two major stages.
First, the root of the manifested disease is to be found in the spiritual realm of the sufferer.
Second, the negative energies must be resolved and the positive energies restored. In other words, the spirits need to be put back where they belong. The balance has to be regained.
As we have seen with their take on diseases, loss of inner strength is one of the primary causes of our health issues. In order to successfully heal, the inner power of the patient is to be increased.
Honing their psychic abilities, the Shaman is able to see the real cause of a patient’s disease without being told anything about it.
After the initial help, the patient has to dive within themselves to find their lost courage and truth. The Shaman has already brought back the spirits to help with this purpose.
Once you’ve found your true inner power, your soul is revived and you are healed.
It’s pretty easy for an indigenous to find a Shaman to heal them. A modern person, however, would have to take more pains to do so. There is no organization or certification which helps you recognize a Shaman. However, local community knowledge may help you find one and you may embark on the path of spiritual healing.
